Metamorphosis or Confrontation is a VR work developed in collaboration with Tobias Klein for his solo exhibition at the Hong Kong University Museum and Art Gallery in 2020, linking a virtual landscape with physical sculpture through real-time projection and shared interaction.
The project expanded Klein’s VR piece into a spatial system rather than a self-contained headset experience. A custom environment was built for the immersive sequence, while a multi-user platform allowed the relation between viewers, sculptures and projected imagery to unfold across the gallery as a coordinated scene.
A system of projectors mapped moving video onto two sculptures, aligning their position with the virtual masks inside the VR landscape in real time. Open for almost a year during the COVID period, the exhibition gave the work an extended public life under constrained exhibition conditions.
